Initial Visit
We take a comprehensive history and perform a complete physical exam. We also
test your metabolism, perform an EKG and do laboratory work. We then discuss your weight loss plan.
This discussion will revolve around a few areas.
Diet Plan
First, we determine a calorie level for you, based upon your metabolism testing. Other important considerations is that your diet contains adequate protein content, essential fatty acid intake, potassium and other electrolyte content. Please refer to our
weight loss plans and nutritional plans sections for additional details.
Medications
Many patients seek the benefit of safe prescription drugs to help them lose weight. Our physicians are trained in using the medications and know how to monitor for side effects. Please refer to the medications tablet for additional info. In addition to prescribing medications, our physicians may talk to you about other medications that you may be taking that can influence your weight, or that may need to be adjusted in the course of a weight loss program (for example, insulin or coumadin).
Exercise Plan
People who see us for our office based plan are responsible for their own exercise activity, since we do not provide a structured program (if you are interested in our programs that contain an exercise component,
see the “Comprehensive” section of the web site). We still counsel you on exercise, however since exercise is so important for weight loss.
Counseling
We try to provide counseling on behavior modification, and whether any other medical issues that we have diagnosed need to be treated. This is all done at the first visit. Please allow at least one hour for the initial visit. ----
Follow Up Visits--- In general these will be much briefer (15 minutes or less). We see patients at two and four weeks after the initial visit, and then monthly.
